About us
Sustainability was a defining ideal in the creation of Murdocks Make. Most Fabric and ribbon used by Murdocks make is sourced sustainably by us.
After looking at alternatives
Our journey began in 2018
Murdock Makes is a family company. Run by husband and wife – Nick and Lucy Murdock. Both keep busy by making – Lucy is all about fabric creations and sustainability; while Nick is multi talented and always learning new skills – currently he is focused on leatherwork, 3d printing and woodwork, he is also the technical support behind the website.
Education
Environmental Impact
In my previous life, as a teacher, I took a class of year 6 children to visit a recycling centre as part of our work on sustainability. The impact of seeing the sheer scale of a landfill site was overwhelming for all of us, students and teachers alike. We all returned with a renewed desire to be more sustainable. For me, this was reflected in my approach to buying less, recycling as much as I could and up-cycling objects to save them from landfill.
Recycle and reuse
Tradition and sentiment
As a family, we always tried to make sure that we celebrated birthdays and Christmas in a thoughtful way and didn’t create too much waste, without sucking the fun! We originally had some cardboard bunting that we would decorate the kitchen with each birthday but found it just didn’t last, so upgraded to fabric bunting. Our happy birthday bunting banner has been used for over 15 birthdays now! And will continue to be used for many more.

Seasonal Changes
My focus moved on to Christmas and I made crackers for the family. But then we needed Christmas crowns to go inside them – these have been hugely popular with family and friends and I was persuaded to make them for others. Our Christmas range currently includes: Christmas crowns, present bags and gift tags. But in the future, we plan to make wrapping fabric and crackers.
